A Labuan Bajo shuttle is a point-to-point road service that moves you between Komodo Airport (LBJ), the town centre, Marina Labuan Bajo, the harbour piers and the hotel strip — either as a shared seat, indicatively around $5–6 per person, or as a private vehicle from roughly $12 per car. As of 2026, Komodo Transport runs both: scheduled departures timed around the busiest arrivals and boat boardings, and on-demand pickups booked against your actual flight. For one or two travellers with light bags the shared seat is cheaper; from three people up, a private vehicle costs less per head and is always faster door to door.
What does a Labuan Bajo shuttle actually cover?
Labuan Bajo is compact — most of town sits within a 10 to 20 minute drive of the airport — so shuttle work here is short-hop and tied to flight and boat timings rather than distance. The circuits we run most often:
- Komodo Airport (LBJ) ↔ town hotels — the core run, both directions, all day.
- Town ↔ Marina Labuan Bajo — boarding and disembarking for liveaboards and phinisi charters, usually with heavy luggage.
- Town ↔ harbour and pier area — early-morning departures for speedboat day trips to Padar, Komodo and Kelor.
- Hotel-to-hotel along the coast road — Waecicu, Pede Beach and the hilltop properties, where walking with bags is unrealistic.
- Edge-of-town runs — Batu Cermin cave, Melo village, hill viewpoints and restaurant drop-offs.
- Late arrivals and early departures — after the last flight lands and before the first check-in window opens.
Anything beyond the Labuan Bajo bowl — Ruteng, Bajawa, Wae Rebo, Ende — is not shuttle work. Those are multi-hour highway drives handled as overland routes, such as our Labuan Bajo to Wae Rebo run, where vehicle class and driver hours matter more than pickup timing.
Scheduled runs or on-demand — which one should you book?
A scheduled shuttle departs at a fixed time whether or not you are on it. It is the cheapest way to move one or two people, and it works when your plan is flexible: you land mid-morning, no boat to catch, and waiting for the vehicle to fill costs you nothing.
An on-demand shuttle is booked against your specific flight number or boarding time. The vehicle is assigned to you alone, the driver waits at arrivals with your name, and you leave when you are ready. This is the correct choice when you have a liveaboard boarding cut-off, dive equipment, a group that will not fit two-by-two into a shared van, or an arrival after dark. Most travellers mix the two: on-demand on arrival day when the schedule is tight and unfamiliar, scheduled on the way out.
Is a shared shuttle cheaper than a private car?
Only up to a point, and the crossover comes earlier than most people expect. The honest arithmetic on a standard airport-to-town leg, at indicative 2026 figures:
| Travellers | Shared shuttle (per person) | Private vehicle (total) | Better value |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | ~$5–6 | ~$12–18 | Shared |
| 2 | ~$10–12 | ~$12–18 | Roughly level |
| 3 | ~$15–18 | ~$12–18 | Private |
| 4–6 | ~$20–36 | ~$18–25 | Private, clearly |
| 7–14 | Rarely seats together | ~$30–45 (van) | Private van |
From three passengers the private car wins on price, and wins outright on time, luggage space and drop-off flexibility. From seven you are into Hiace Commuter territory, and for larger arrivals a staged group transport plan beats buying seats. For solo travellers and couples chasing the lowest number, the shared seat is still the right answer.
Luggage, dive gear, flight delays and night runs
- Luggage: one large case plus one cabin bag per seat on shared runs. Beyond that, go private — an Avanza with driver absorbs four people with normal bags, a van handles a dive group.
- Dive and camera gear: bring it, but tell us first. Tanks, twin sets and hard cases change the vehicle we send.
- Flight delays: give us your flight number and we track the actual landing. On on-demand bookings the driver waits; a delayed flight is not treated as a no-show. Shared runs cannot hold indefinitely, so a badly delayed arrival moves to the next run or converts to private at the price difference.
- Night availability: yes, including pickups after the last arrivals and pre-dawn departures for boat boarding. Late runs carry a small surcharge because the vehicle returns empty.
- Child seats: on request when booked ahead, subject to vehicle.

Labuan Bajo shuttle FAQ
Is there a public shuttle bus from Komodo Airport?
There is no reliable fixed-timetable public bus you can plan an arrival around. In practice everyone uses hotel pickups, ride-hailing where drivers are available, or a booked shuttle. The airport sits close to town, so the gap between options is minutes and a few dollars, not hours.
What happens if my flight is delayed or cancelled?
Tell us as early as you can. For on-demand bookings we re-time the pickup against the new landing at no extra charge, and a cancellation that pushes you to the next day is moved rather than charged. Shared seats depart on time, so a long delay means a later run.
Can a shuttle take me directly to the marina for a liveaboard?
Yes — airport to Marina Labuan Bajo is one of our most common legs, timed against your boarding call rather than the clock. Give us the boat name and boarding time and we build in a buffer for the luggage walk at the gate.
How is this different from a dedicated point-to-point transfer service?
A shuttle is about the circuit and the seat: repeating legs, shared or private, priced per run. Our sister Komodo Luxury desk handles dedicated point-to-point bookings and the wider trip. Same operator, same drivers, different product shape.
