In Labuan Bajo and across West Flores, this is the normal way visitors move around: you book a vehicle by time block (5-hour, half-day, 12-hour, full day, or multi-day) and the driver takes you wherever your plan goes that day. What exactly is a private transport booking?
You book the whole vehicle plus a driver for an agreed block of time. The itinerary is yours. If you want to stop for photos at Puncak Waringin, wait an extra 40 minutes at the pier because the boat is late, or add a sunset detour to Bukit Cinta on the way back to the hotel, that is simply how the day runs. There is no meter and no per-stop surcharge inside your booked hours.

Why is with-driver the norm in Labuan Bajo?
Plainly: self-drive is uncommon here and we do not recommend it. Roads outside Labuan Bajo town are narrow, steep and heavily cambered, mountain sections toward Ruteng and Bajawa have long stretches without shoulders or lighting, and livestock on the carriageway is routine. Signage is thin and mobile coverage drops out in the hills. A local driver reads those conditions instinctively, knows which fuel stations are actually stocked, and can talk to villagers in Manggarai when you arrive somewhere off the tourist track. The driver is also the reason your day stays flexible — he adjusts the order of stops when the weather turns or the harbour is busy.
Which time blocks can you book?
Most visitors fall into one of five patterns:
- 5-hour block — town errands, hotel-to-pier plus waiting, a compact afternoon of viewpoints.
- Half-day (6 hours) — Batu Cermin cave, Melo village, Sylvia Hill sunset, or a morning of business meetings.
- Full day (10 hours) — the standard sightseeing day around Labuan Bajo and the near hinterland.
- 12-hour block — long single-day pushes such as Cunca Wulang waterfall plus Mirror Cave plus sunset, or an early pier drop followed by a late pickup.
- Multi-day driver hire — 2 to 6 days with the same driver and vehicle for overland Flores, including the drive to Wae Rebo, Ruteng, Bajawa and beyond.
Blocks start when the driver reaches your pickup point, not when you leave the hotel lobby. Overtime is billed in whole hours and always confirmed with you before it starts.
Which vehicle should you choose?
Match the vehicle to group size and road profile rather than to price alone. A Toyota Avanza is the efficient default for 1–4 passengers with light luggage on sealed roads. Couples wanting more comfort on mountain routes usually move up to an Innova. Groups of 6–12 with dive gear or suitcases should take a Hiace Premio, which has real luggage space behind the last row. For arrivals where presentation matters — honeymoon pickups, corporate guests, government delegations — an Alphard or Fortuner is the appropriate choice. Larger parties travelling together are handled through group transport with multiple vehicles under one coordinator.
How do you book private transport?
- Message us on WhatsApp with your dates, pickup point, passenger count, luggage volume and rough plan.
- Receive a written quote in USD stating the vehicle, time block, inclusions and any excluded fees.
- Confirm — we lock the vehicle and driver, then send driver name and plate number the day before.
- Travel — the driver contacts you directly on arrival day. Payment terms are agreed in advance; there are no surprise additions at the end of the day.
Same-day requests are possible but vehicle availability in peak months (July–August, and the December–early January window) is genuinely tight, so book ahead where you can.

Premium vehicles (Alphard, Fortuner, EV) and long overland routes are quoted individually. We do not publish a single fixed price for every scenario because Flores routing varies too much for that to be honest.

Can I change the itinerary during the day?
Yes. Within your booked hours the routing is flexible — add a stop, skip one, extend a lunch. Changes that push you past the booked block are charged as overtime, and the driver will tell you before the clock crosses over.
Does the driver speak English?
Drivers handle practical conversational English — directions, timing, meeting points, restaurant help. If you need detailed narration on Manggarai culture, Komodo ecology or Flores history, request a licensed guide alongside the vehicle and we will quote it.
Can I hire the same driver for several days?
Yes, and for overland Flores we strongly recommend it. Continuity means the driver already knows your pace, luggage habits and preferred departure time. Remember to budget the driver’s room and meal allowance on overnight legs.
Do you cover pickups outside Labuan Bajo?
