The Toyota Avanza is the budget workhorse of the Komodo Transport fleet: a compact 7-seat MPV that we operate as a realistic 4-5 adult vehicle, always supplied with a local driver. It is the right car for town runs in Labuan Bajo, hotel and airport pickups, and short sealed-road viewpoint trips around the Komodo gateway. Indicative pricing starts from about $25-38 per day with driver (indicative, as of 2026), with the exact figure confirmed on WhatsApp before you commit.
Where does the Avanza sit in the Komodo Transport fleet?
Every land trip in the Komodo region starts with the same question: how much car do you actually need? The Avanza is our entry point. It is small enough for the narrow lanes above Labuan Bajo harbour, cheap enough per seat that a couple or small family is not paying for empty rows, and common enough on Flores that parts and roadside help are never far away.
Above it sits the Innova for longer road legs and the Hiace for genuine group movement. Treat the fleet as a ladder rather than a menu — you climb one rung when distance, road surface, headcount or luggage demands it. The full Komodo Transport fleet page lays the options side by side.
How many people actually fit in a Toyota Avanza?
The brochure says seven seats. The honest answer for travellers with suitcases is four to five adults. The third row exists and works, but it is a knee-to-chest bench best used by children or for short in-town hops, and folding it up is what gives you real boot space. We would rather say this now than have a driver at the arrivals gate facing four large suitcases.
| Body type | Compact 7-seat MPV, petrol |
| Realistic capacity | 4-5 adults, or 2 adults plus 3 children |
| Luggage at 5 passengers | Roughly 3-4 soft bags or daypacks |
| Luggage at 4 passengers, third row folded | 2 medium suitcases plus daypacks |
| Air conditioning | Front unit with rear blower |
| Supplied with | Local driver; English level varies by driver and is confirmed when you book |
| Transmission | Manual or automatic depending on the unit available |
What is the Avanza best used for around Labuan Bajo?
Interest in an Avanza around Komodo is practical rather than aspirational. Most guests want a dependable car with a driver for the land half of a trip otherwise spent on the water, and that is the job this vehicle does well.
- Airport and hotel runs — Komodo Airport to town accommodation for two to four people with normal luggage.
- Town circuits — restaurant hopping along the harbour road, dive shop visits, market and pharmacy stops.
- Short viewpoint trips — Puncak Waringin, Bukit Cinta, Batu Cermin and the sealed stretch toward Melo village for the late-afternoon panorama.
- Half-day standby — a car and driver parked with you between a morning boat return and an evening flight.
- Crew and staff movement — a low-cost shuttle running alongside larger units during events, retreats and weddings.
When is the Avanza the wrong car?
We would rather lose a small booking than send you into a bad day. The Avanza is a low-clearance, front-wheel-drive family car, and there are legs in Flores where that is the wrong tool.
- Multi-day Flores overland. Long climbing sections, uneven surfaces and a full luggage load over several days deserve a taller, stronger unit. For a run like Labuan Bajo to Ruteng and anything beyond it toward Bajawa, Ende or Kelimutu, step up.
- Rough or unsealed access roads. Several waterfall and trailhead approaches around Flores punish low cars. Ask us about the specific access road first.
- Six or more adults. Do not squeeze. A Toyota Hiace Premio costs more per day but far less per seat once you pass five people with bags.
- Comfort-led travel. If the priority is a quiet cabin and proper legroom on a two-hour drive, the Toyota Innova Reborn is the honest recommendation.
Our standard is a car supplied with a driver, which is how visitors safely navigate the road network here. If your plan genuinely requires a self-drive arrangement instead, that sits with our sister brand Komodo Luxury rather than with us.
How do you book an Avanza with driver?
Most bookings are settled inside a single WhatsApp thread.
- Step 1. Message us with your dates, pickup point, passenger number and luggage count.
- Step 2. Tell us the intended route or stops. This decides whether the Avanza is the right unit or whether we should quote something taller.
- Step 3. We reply with a written USD quote covering hours, inclusions and the overtime rate.
- Step 4. You confirm, and we lock the vehicle and driver for your dates.
- Step 5. The day before service we send the driver’s name, vehicle details and pickup timing.
How much does an Avanza cost per day in 2026?
All figures below are indicative, as of 2026, in USD, and are published as a planning range rather than a fixed tariff. Real quotes move with fuel cost, season, total hours, trip duration and whether the route leaves the Labuan Bajo area.
| Airport or hotel run, town area | from ~$12-18 per run |
| Half day with driver, up to 5 hours | from ~$18-25 |
| Full day with driver, up to 10 hours | from ~$25-38 |
| Additional hour beyond the agreed block | from ~$3-5 per hour |
| Three days or more | reduced daily rate, quoted on request |
We quote rather than sell from a fixed list, because the same “one day” can mean four hours in town or eleven hours with a mountain leg attached. Fuel treatment, driver meals and any out-of-area allowance are stated in writing in your quote.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Avanza suitable for the road to Wae Rebo?
No. The approach beyond the main Flores road is not a place for a low family car carrying a full load. We will quote a more appropriate vehicle and say so openly rather than quietly take the booking.
Does the rate include the driver and fuel?
The driver is always included, because that is how we operate. Fuel treatment depends on whether the trip stays inside the Labuan Bajo area or runs long distance, so it is confirmed line by line in your quote before you pay anything.
Can I request an automatic transmission?
You can request it and we will confirm availability for your dates. Manual units are more common in the local fleet, so an automatic depends on what is genuinely on the road that week rather than being guaranteed.
Is it a good choice for a family with young children?
Yes. For two adults with two or three children it is usually the best value in the fleet. Child seats are not standard equipment, so tell us in advance if you need one and we will confirm whether it can be arranged.
