What electric cars can you book in Labuan Bajo?
Our EV pool is small and deliberately simple. Two classes cover almost every request:
- City EV (Wuling Air EV class) — compact 4-seater, ideal for two guests plus cabin bags, town errands, restaurant runs and short hill viewpoints. Easiest to park in Kampung Ujung and along the harbour road.
- Mid-size electric SUV (Toyota bZ4X class) — 4 passengers in comfort with real luggage space, higher ground clearance, better on the steeper approaches to Sylvia Hill and Puncak Waringin. This is the unit for guests arriving from Bali with full suitcases.
Exact model, year and colour are confirmed at the time of booking. If the unit you asked for is already out, we say so and offer the closest alternative — we do not swap silently and let you discover it at the airport. For anything larger than four passengers, an EV is not the right tool yet; a Toyota Avanza with driver or a Hiace commuter van is the sensible call.
What is an EV actually good for around Komodo?
The EV shines on short, repeated, low-speed work. Realistic use cases we run every week:
- Airport pick-up and drop between Komodo Airport (LBJ) and hotels in town — roughly 10-15 minutes each way.
- Early-morning hotel-to-pier runs before a boat departure, where a silent cabin at 05:30 is genuinely appreciated.
- Half-day viewpoint loop: Puncak Waringin, Bukit Sylvia / Bukit Cinta, Batu Cermin cave, Wae Cicu beach.
- In-town use across a full day — meetings, cafés, dive shop, dinner, back to the hotel.
- Photo and production days, where engine noise and exhaust near the camera are a problem.
What is the realistic range on Flores hill roads?
Manufacturer range figures are measured on flat test cycles. Labuan Bajo is not flat. Short steep climbs, air-conditioning on maximum, and four passengers with luggage all pull real-world range down, so we plan conservatively — we budget roughly two-thirds of the brochure figure and add margin on top. Regenerative braking claws some of it back on the descents, which is why hill driving here is less punishing than it first looks.
The good news: a full day of town driving plus the standard viewpoint circuit rarely exceeds 60-80 km. That sits comfortably inside the usable range of any current EV class we operate, with reserve to spare. The moment an itinerary starts adding zeros to that number, we change the recommendation.
What is charging really like in Labuan Bajo, per 2026?
Honestly: thin, and improving slowly. Public charging points in and around Labuan Bajo are few, and availability on any given day is not something we will promise you in writing. Here is how we handle it instead:
- Every EV leaves our base fully charged on the morning of your booking.
- Charging happens overnight at base between bookings — that is the backbone of the service, not public chargers.
- Some hotels have suitable outlets, some do not. If overnight charging at your property matters, tell us the hotel name and we will check with them before confirming.
- If your planned route sits outside safe range, we say so before you pay and propose a combustion unit instead. We would rather lose the EV booking than strand you on a hill road.
Can you do a Trans-Flores overland run in an EV?
No — and we will not quote one. As of 2026, a Labuan Bajo to Ruteng, Bajawa, Ende, Moni or Maumere crossing on an EV is not practical. The distances run into hundreds of kilometres, the mountain gradients are relentless, and reliable charging along the Trans-Flores corridor cannot be assumed. One failed charge in a small town costs you a whole day of a trip you flew a long way for.

The driver plans the day around the charge and flags it early if your plan drifts. If it becomes tight, our contingency is a swap to a combustion unit from the same fleet, agreed with you before it becomes urgent — never a silent detour.
How far ahead should I book?
